LET'S SKIP THE STRAW!

UNDERSTANDING PLASTIC POLLUTION

AREN’T PLASTIC STRAWS RECYCLABLE?

Most plastic straws are too lightweight to make it through the mechanical recycling sorter. They drop through sorting screens and mix with other materials and are too small to separate, contaminating recycling loads or getting disposed as garbage.

Even when it's in landfills, plastic is at risk of blowing away and ending up in rivers or oceans. Even more of a risk is plastic litter. ... These plastic items can be carried by wind and rain into our drainage networks or rivers that then flow into the sea.

Here is what you can do to make a difference:

-SAY NO TO STRAWS!

-ASK YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT TO STOP GIVING OUT PLASTIC STRAWS, ASK THEM TO SWITCH TO PAPER STRAWS!

(PAPER STRAWS ARE A SAFER ALTERNATIVE IF YOU MUST USE A STRAW)
